It’s been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side and said “I’m angry”
Five days since you laughed at me saying
“Get that together come back and see me” — Barenaked Ladies, One Week
I can’t get that song out of my head this morning as I click through my story stats. Though I’m one day shy of a week, it has been six days since a story has been curated.
I don’t mean I’m not getting curated. I mean I have stories out there with the tag, “Hang tight, we’re still processing this story.”
It’s been like this since the new year. Are our overworked curators taking an extended holiday?
Who knows? Emailing our friends at Medium gets no response.
The wait isn’t as long with the partner publications, but it’s longer than what we’ve become accustomed to.
Your mileage may vary.
Medium owes us nothing. We pay our monthly membership fee for the purpose of being able to read and write ad free. We’re still getting that.
Being paid for our writing is a bonus and one I will never complain about. Sure, I’d love to earn what the big gals and guys do. It would mean life changing things for my family. So I work hard to one day enter the big leagues.
Being curated leads me to that goal and I’m not so sure waiting a week to get there is helpful.
Curation means they email your story to people who follow that topic. As far as that goes, I’m hopeful even being curated a week later will still be helpful. If I’m not alone in my week long wait, maybe even showing up on the topic page may work.
A quick check of a handful of topics lets me know some are showing two days ago as the most recent date.
Though Medium owes us nothing, it would be helpful to know if there are new changes on the horizon. It’s the beginning of a new year, a new decade even. Although this backlog of curation doesn’t change how often I write, it may change topics I publish in, if the chances of being curated are higher in others.
Are you having a similar issue? What, if anything, are you doing to combat it? I would love to hear from you.
