I feel this one, deeply.

I live in the South, where darlin’, sweetie, honey, etc. become your name before someone dares to learn your actual name. In many cases, they don’t even care to learn your name. Sugar suffices.

And it has always infuriated me. I remember when I got my first office job, my boss, who wasn’t even old, called me Darlin’. No. Hell no. If you’re Mister Jones, then I’m Mrs. Cuthbert. I’m not your Darlin’, ever.

Of course, since I made a comment about it, he just started calling me Sweetie.

And people wonder why I so enjoyed my time as a Professional Dominatrix. :)
