Ours was not avocado green, but it was as old as the hills.
My grandparents had a 1950’s Frigidaire for the majority of my childhood. In fact, I think I was in my teens before the old thing finally gave out. Actually, it didn’t stop working, it was just moved into the garage to hold beer.
I remember distinctly, being told many times by my grandmother, “It’s a Frigidaire, not a camera, it’s not gonna take your picture! Close the door!”
I was fond of thinking the longer that I stood in front of it, staring inside, maybe something interesting would just appear.
Their stove was stainless steel, no avocado there either.
I didn’t get the avocado appliances until long after they were popular. When I moved in with my 2nd husband, before we were married, he lived in a beautiful Victorian home in rural Caswell County, NC. The kitchen was outfitted with not one, but two avocado toned refrigerators. There was a side-by-side in the large pantry, and a smaller single door, with the tiny internal freezer, in the kitchen proper.
We even had the matching stove.
I wish I had a photo of the wallpaper in my ex’s grandparent’s house. It was ALL the 70's! It was hot pink with silver foil accents. So epic.
Oh, the nostalgia. Thanks for sharing your piece, it brought up some interesting memories. ❤
