You make quite a few valid points, many that I have also lived through. And you are right, I may have been a bit too optimistic in this piece, it was an attempt at being more positive in a time where I was allowing negativity due to circumstances in my life to drag me down.

I have read Meditations and got quite a bit from it. What I like about Stoicism is how it can be used today as a philosophy of life, without much tweaking.

I guess I wouldn’t say so much that you have to lie to people in order to protect yourself so much as you have to keep your own secrets, if that makes sense. Especially in today’s world of social media, where so many feel the need to post every little piece of their lives for the world to see. I am all for being vulnerable in my writing, sharing certain parts of myself in order to help others, but there are some things that will always be sacred, and not for public consumption.
