Thank you, so much, for bravely telling your story here. Valicia, your quote from Maya Angelou caught my eye in your bio. She is one of the reasons I speak my truth. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings was pivotal in my education of what it means to carry an untold story, how it rips and tears at your very soul. At the time I initially read it, I had already gone through being molested as a child and raped as a teen. My stories were held deep inside me, because my own mother’s behavior about the incidents forced me to do so.

I am 42 years old and I still feel shame surround what I’ve gone through. I just no longer allow it to stop me from speaking my truth.

Just as there’s nothing wrong with telling, there’s nothing wrong with keeping your secrets. It’s all up to the individual.

Much love and light.

I think, therefore, I write. /Posts may contain affiliate links.
