There were multiples parts during the movie that I cried, but none harder than when Giles read this at the end.

The poem was originally written to talk about God. But it fits so beautifully with the feel of the movie, I am glad that Del Toro found it randomly. Apparently, he was browsing in a favorite book store, and came across a book of poetry that featured it. It is by Hakim Sanai and appears in “The Book of Everything: Journey of the Heart’s Desire: Hakim Sanai’s Walled Garden of Truth”

The version used in the movie is an adaptation.
