I thought the name sounded familiar when you mentioned him to me before, so I did a little research. What I found interesting is, on his organization’s website, there is no mention of him mentoring Graham. I wonder if they distanced themselves from him after Appelman’s death because even they thought he got out of hand? I also found it interesting that there truly seems to be little information about Appelman available online, other than through his church, especially considering how large his ministry became. It just struck me as odd. It is so difficult to separate our childhood heroes and the good that they seemingly accomplished from the bigotry they also inspired. Thank you so much James for sharing your experience with Appelman with us all, to show the human side of him. ❤
